Business Studies

Business studies is an exciting and challenging subject which will introduce students to the dynamic world of business. It covers a broad range of topics that are designed to provide each individual with the knowledge and understanding that underpins modern businesses, as well as providing students with transferable skills which they will later utilise. As a department we aim to:

 

1. To achieve academic excellence in all business exams and to promote a learning environment that allows leaners to secure expected to excellent progress.

 

2. To create link with classroom learning to the wider business world.

 

3. To embed the learning objectives of each lesson through student lead activities and through the use of external resources

Key Stage 4 Business

Course description:

The course begins with a general introduction to Business for year 9 students. It involves an independent project and lessons which build the foundation for the GCSE course. The course develops in years 10 and 11 with a detailed analysis of the different functions of businesses including finance and marketing and how these impact both small (theme 1) and growing businesses (theme 2).

Key Stage 5 Business A-Level

Course description:

The course is split into four themes.  Themes 1 and 2 covered in year 12 and themes 3 and 4 in year 13.  The themes are synoptic and students’ knowledge of these will be examined in all exams.  Students will cover topics ranging from marketing and people to globalisation and the impact this has on the dynamic and ever changing world of business.  Alongside this, students will also develop a greater understanding of the financial aspects businesses need to be aware of and the impact of not following these guidelines.  Students will need to apply their knowledge and understanding to both familiar and unfamiliar contexts in the assessments and demonstrate an awareness of current business issues.

Key stage 5 Economics A-level

Course description:

Economics aims to provide students with an understanding of key economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life.  The key issue is how to allocate scarce resources. The syllabus requires the study of both UK and International economies and policies adopted by governments to meet the key macroeconomic objectives. In today’s current climate this course provides students with the understanding required to analyse and evaluate the decisions of businesses and governments to gain a critical understanding of how businesses and the economy operate. In doing this, students will be required to apply the concepts and theories in a range of different contexts

Course description: This course provide opportunities to develop skills demanded by employers. The units covered, including The Marketing Plan and Financial Forecasting, are structured to enable students to gain develop a deep understanding of the world of business.  In addition, the level 2 programme offers students the opportunity to: prepare for further learning or training, as well as, develop essential knowledge, transferable skills and personal skills in a subject area that interests them with the aim of enhancing their employability

 

Learners will also have the opportunity to acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as planning, research and analysis, working with others and effective communication

INTERVENTION AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The Business department has an open door policy for students to review, refined and retune learning and understanding of business knowledge and learning objectives.

 

We as a department focus our attention to external examination classes and offer additional support clinics to support learner’s academic performance and outcomes. This is embedded into the schools and department ethos of academic excellence. All learners are issued with examination packs for independent learning and to prepare for all exams based on past exams papers. Intervention classes take place on the lead up to exams, with regular focus on exam topics and technique
