Yr9 Me, my family and friends, Technology in everyday life, Free-time activities, Custom and festival in French speaking countries, my home and town.

KS3 focuses on developing pupils’ confidence in Spanish, the lessons are mostly led in the target language (TL) so that it can raise their awareness to the sounds and the phonic system of the new language. They are also encouraged to interact in the TL to develop their communication skills and spontaneity.  KS3 topics are selected to engage students and to allow them to talk about themselves, give their opinions and debate topics. This includes, talking about themselves, their families and pets, their school life, their hobbies, the world around them.

MFL has a spiral program which allows students to revisit different concepts across the different topics studied in lessons, while adding more vocabulary and sophisticated sentence structures. Students are exposed to a wide range of reading, listening and speaking tasks to enable them to tackle the language in all its different forms. Teachers are constantly adapting the content to fit cultural trends and issues.

Language corner in library: our library has a section dedicated to languages with magazines, newspapers and books available in French and Spanish.

Reading in partnership

A group of students meets once a week to practise their reading skills for 30 min before school. They are paired with another student and together they read a story book all in Spanish. Once they have read part of the story, they discussed what they understood, practise their pronunciation, learn new vocabulary and write a summary of the story as well. Not only do they develop their reading and speaking skills but also build up their confidence and become more independent in their learning. If you wish to participate as well, come and see Mrs Mouaraki.

Language Magazines:

Every term, the MFL Department offers the opportunity to students who want to develop their reading skills to subscribe to a specific magazine that suits their reading ability. Both “¿Qué tal?” and “Ahora” are full of engaging articles about Spanish culture. Each article includes key vocabulary and mini activities that students can complete to develop their understanding skills in the target language.
