Summary

We study the AQA specification. There are three 120-minute exams. One exam on criminal law, one on tort and one on contract. All three exams include questions about the English legal system. 

 

 

Autumn

Spring

Summer

English legal system, including where our laws come from and the court structure. We also learn about the different roles in the legal system, including judges, magistrates, juries, solicitors and barristers



An introduction to criminal law, including actus reus elements such as omissions and causation, and mens rea elements such as intention, recklessness, transferred malice and coincidence

Non-fatal offences and homicide, including murder and voluntary manslaughter.

 

Autumn

Spring

Summer

Involuntary manslaughter, theft, robbery, attempts and a variety of defences.

Negligence in tort, including negligent misstatement and psychiatric harm



Tort: liability for occupiers’ liability, nuisance, the rule in Rylands v Fletcher and vicarious liability.

Contract: formation and discharge of contracts.  Contract terms, including consumer rights and exclusion clauses. Vitiating factors and remedies.
